Calvary of Tamilnadu

Kandal cross is Roman Catholic church located in Nilgiri and is the Power full church for the world . It is considered to be the Holy Shrine of the place. It is also the Calvary of Tamilnadu and is located near Udhagamandalam.

It is renowned place for the people of the region and is well known for the wishes of people coming true. That is what the belief of the people is and is known for curing the ill, blessing the people and wishes coming true. People light the candle in the church and wish something from the bottom of their heart, with the great hope of it coming true. It's a great pilgrim place where sacred prayers are always offered on Friday evening


The Shrine situated on the outskirts of the town of Ooty is a pilgrimage centre. There is a life size bronze crucifix imported from France by Rev. Fr. P. Crayssac, the then parish priest of St. Mary’s Church, Ooty which was installed on a boulder in 1933 to commemorate the 19th centenary of the Redemption of Mankind.

The shrine was a substation of St. Theresa’s Parish, Fingerpost till 1998. On 14.05.1998 it was established as a separate parish by His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Antony Anandarayar

The first Catholic Church in Ooty. In 1837 Rev. Fr. Bigot Beauclair visited Ootacamund and within 2 years the construction of a Church was commenced which is now St. Joseph's Primary School. As the catholic population of Ootacamund increased, the original church was found inadequate and a much larger one was constructed in 1870 which is the present church of St. Mary's

Ooty Botanical Gardens Built in 1847, this 22-acre garden’s aim is to research and promote different flora of the Nilgiris. Apart from being a blossoming green garden, it conducts a flower show and an exhibition of rare plant species in May every year. In this garden, you can see a 20 million year old fossilized tree and diverse, rare flora such as the cork tree, monkey puzzle tree, paper bark tree, flowering bushes and plants, and fern house full of ferns and orchids. An Italian-style garden around a pool and bird watching are the other attractions here


Doddabetta is the highest mountain in the Nilgiri Hills, at 2637 meters (8652 feet). There is a reserved forest area around the peak. It is 35 km north of Ooty,on Ooty-Mysore Road in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu, South India. It is a popular tourist attraction with road access to the summit. The Chamundi Hills can be viewed from the peak.

Telescope House

There is an observatory at the top of Doddabetta with two telescopes available for the public to enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of the whole district.
It opened on June 18, 1983 and is run by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC). The average number of viewers in 2001-2002 was 3500 per day in season and 700 per day in the off season.

Incorporated in 1896 and made into a greens in 1929. It is located at a mountainous 7,600 feet. A Ross Thompson design that is open year round. The Ooty Golf course is not only scenic but also quite tiring and it would be wise for the visitor to play only 09 of the 18 holes on the 01st day.
The Ooty fairways are lush but tight, and the greens are large and well maintained. A unique feature of the Ooty greens is the fencing that protects them from the wild animals that occasionally stroll on the course.
